How You Can Support Cooperative Extension

Advertise in the 4-H Bi-County Horse Show Program (due July 1, show mid-July)

  • Ads pricing: $10 business Card, $20 half page, $30 full page.

  • Camera ready copies a plus.

  • Donations help pay for prizes, judge, and other expenses related to the 4-H Horse Show.

Sponsor a trophy or award for the 4-H Show at the Fonda Fair (last Tuesday of August through Labor Day)

  • Trophies are given for special recognition for various animal related contests at the fair.

  • Award sponsorships range from $12 to $30 per award.

Donate an item for the Ag In The Classroom Auction (Usually the second Sunday in September)

  • AITC Auction takes place at the Fulton County Farm Bureau Chicken Barbecue.

  • Bidding at the Barbecue is via silent auction.

  • Money raised helps to support the cost of Ag In The Classroom materials for school teachers as well as the Agriculture Awareness Days Program.

  • Items could include products, equipment, gift certificates etc.

Purchase items at the Ag In The Classroom Auction

  • If you attend the Farm Bureau Barbecue, bid on and purchase items!

Be a Site on the Mobile Classroom Agricultural Tour (July)

  • Mobile Classroom involves taking school teachers to area agri-businesses and farms to expose them to agriculture in their own community.

  • If you would like to promote local agriculture and help impact what children are learning about agriculture in school, contact Bonnie at the 4-H office.

Be a speaker for Ag Awareness Day

  • Agriculture Awareness Days incorporates 13 station topics in the field of agriculture into an event for 4th grade classes from area schools.

  • Speakers must present a topic of agriculture in an interesting and interactive way to help develop the understanding that children have about local agriculture and its impact on them.

  • Two or three Ag Days are scheduled each year in June and September.

Be a speaker for Environmental Field Days

  • Fifth grade students come the Environmental Field days and spend 20 minutes at each station to learn about the environment through hands-on and interactive presentations.

  • Do you have a topic you would like to share?

  • Events take place in May and September.

Help at Bi-County Horse Show (July, need not be a "horse person”)

  • Volunteers are needed to help check in riders as they arrive, hand out ribbons, serve as ring steward, show secretary, ring crew (move equipment in and out of ring such as jumps, poles, etc.), gate person, concession stand workers.

Host a 4-H Dairy Judging Barn Meeting (any time of year...must have dairy cattle)

  • Dairy Judging Barn Meetings involve youth learning about and then practicing judging Dairy Cattle.

  • Hosts need to have a facility that is conducive to classes of four cattle being lead around, evaluated and placed by a group of up to 40 youth.

  • Cattle must also be trained to lead.

Teach workshop at Horse Camp (July)

  • Volunteers could have various roles including teaching riding skills for English, Jumping, Western, Trail, Fitting and Showmanship, Driving, stable management, as well as various topics of interest to equestrians.

Serve on a 4-H Task Group (Horse, Dairy, Ag In The Classroom, Dog)

  • Volunteers for each of the special interest groups help plan and implement county wide events and activities for youth in that interest area.

  • Usually 3-4 meetings per year.

Help implement an animal show at the Fonda Fair (last Tuesday of August through Labor Day)

  • Roles may include serving as ring steward, announcer, clerk, or handing out ribbons.

Real Men Can Cook (last Friday of September)

  • Join us in planning, sponsoring and/or working at this fun event where 70-100 area men prepare and serve their favorite recipe.

  • As a sponsor you will have the opportunity to advertise in the Real Men Can Cook cookbook or on T-shirts worn by cooks and volunteers.

  • Or nominate your favorite man to cook for the event.

  • Planning meetings begin in the spring.

Buy 4-H Cookies and Candy

  • Watch for the annual sale in the spring.

  • Place your order with a 4-H member, leader, or call the 4-H office.

Face Paint at the Fonda Fair (last Tuesday of August through Labor Day)

  • Designs and supplies are provided.

Tell your County, Town and State officials how important CCE is to the community

  • Write an open letter to your representatives.

  • Write a letter to the editor of a local daily or weekly newspaper.

  • Call a local radio, television or newspaper reporter for a feature story or interview.

  • Attend a public forum where community issues are being discussed.

Demonstrate your craft or recipe at the annual Holiday Workshop

  • Share your skills with 60 to 80 participants with a favorite gift or holiday decoration idea at one of our workshop locations.

  • Enjoy an evening of good food (& their recipes) and good company.

Serve on the CCE Board of Directors

  • Six Fulton County residents and six Montgomery County residents assist in setting the organizational direction, ensuring necessary resources, and providing oversight for programming, administration and financial obligations of the association.

  • Term of office is three years.

  • Board meets eight times each year, plus committee meetings to be determined.

  • Members represent the association with decision-makers, community members, stakeholders, etc.

Serve on an Issue Committee

  • Six to twelve volunteers serve on each committee.

  • Committees focus specifically on a program area.

  • Members assist in establishing program priorities, evaluating programming, fundraising, and communicating with partners.

Be a Master Gardener

  • Join a corps of volunteers who are trained by CCE in the science and art of gardening.

  • Answer questions and provide educational information to other gardeners in the community.

  • Conduct workshops in schools, for garden clubs, at home and garden centers, and the Fonda Fair.

Advertise in Town and Country

  • The bi-monthly magazine-format reaches 2000 homes in the two-county region.

  • Its pages are filled with articles on nutrition & health, family & community development, horticulture, financial management, science & technology, and youth development.

  • Current advertising rates are:
    o 2” high x 3.5” wide $20/issue $110/year
    o 4.5” high x 3.5” wide $40/issue $168/year
    o 4.5” high x 7.5” wide $80/issue $312/year

Attend 4-H fundraising events

  • Watch our web calendar for information regarding a variety of events throughout the year.

  • Events are sponsored by individual clubs as well as the Association.

Be a judge at the fair (last Tuesday of August through Labor Day)

  • Judging Day is always the Friday before the Fair begins.

  • Youth bring projects in areas such as woodworking, rocketry, foods, fruits & vegetables, clothing & textiles, arts & crafts, talent expo, club exhibits, and much more.

Participate in CCE/4-H programs and activities

  • Watch our web calendar for information regarding a variety of events throughout the year.

  • Many programs and activities are free of charge. Some require a minimal materials or participation fee.

Be a club leader

  • Adults undergo an interview and volunteer application process, meet with a 4-H staff person, attend training sessions and quarterly volunteer meetings with other 4-H volunteers.

  • 4-H staff participate in the club’s first two meetings to get you started.

Be a resource volunteer

  • Everyone has something to share. There’s something for everyone.

  • 4-H offers more than 150 projects in 30 different areas.

  • Volunteers can share their talents and interests in a “hands on” setting, through “training the trainer,” or in an advisory role.

Make a financial contribution
